On top of the copper base plating, a layer of protective solder mask is applied, and then the silk screen is added to mark various elements on the board.

  • Double-Layer PCBs

It is also known as double-sided PCBs and comes with a thin base material made of conductive metal. It is applied to both sides of the boards. Thereafter, holes are drilled to enable circuits on one side of the board to connect to the circuits. The components and circuits of this type of PCB board are generally connected in two ways.

The first option is the use of through-hole, in which small wires or leads are passed through the holes, and then the ends of leads are soldered to the specific components.

The second option is a surface mount, which does not use any connectors. Rather, it leverages little small leads which are soldered to the board directly. This means that in this, the board itself is used as a wiring surface for various components. It enables circuits to use fewer spaces, allowing them to integrate more functions.

  • Multi-Layer PCBs

Such type of PCBs includes a series of three or even more double-layered PCBs. Such boards are secured together with glue and put between insulation pieces to make sure that components do not melt due to excessive heating. Multi-layer PCBs come in different sizes with the smallest size going as low as four layers and the largest size going as high as 10-12 layers.
